Some years ago I wanted to memorialize my wife Liz's love of her dogs. At a Ducks Unlimited dinner I was astonished to see a bronze of an old sportsman in the Cleveland, Ohio area done by Susan Norris (now Susan Romero). I know the subject of the sculpt and marveled at how Susan had captured him, truly both his features and his attitude.
I talked Susan into doing a sculpt of my wife with her four dogs: 2 Newfies, a Lab and a Wirehaired Dachshund. Since I was having this sculpt done as a gift I could not have Susan meet and study Liz. At her suggestion I took a variety of photos to Susan (she had come one morning to actually see and phtograph the dogs while Liz was at work).
Of course Susan aptly told me she needed 180 degree photos of Liz head and none with her smiling. "A sculpt looks odd if the subject is smiling," Susan remarked.
Liz and I were going to Paris that Fall so I had a colleague in Paris write to Liz and suggest a haircut by a famous Parision hairdresser, but the hairdresser wanted to study Liz before she came to Paris so he required 180 degrees in photos, none smiling "as that distorts the shape of the face."
Imaging Liz's surprise that Christmas when I unveiled the sculpt of her and her four dogs.
I don't know anyone who could have captured Liz's features and love of her dogs any better that Susan has done. The sculpt is a great memory of the dogs long past and of course of Liz.
We now have this sculpt in our trophy room in Cape Town, South Africa and everyone who sees it remarks on how it truly captures my wife and her love of dogs.
I wholly endorse this wonderful artist's work.
Please don't hesitate to contact me directly if you wish to discuss Susan's talent, cooperation and dedication to detail and schedules.
